dug Nap is a self-taught artist who was born in Montpelier, Vermont, and always loved to draw. One of his favorite childhood memories is drawing cowboys with a friend. dug started painting while a patient in the hospital and found it very theraputic. He attended various schools in Vermont, briefly went to a military prep school in New Jersey, and graduated from Johnson State College in Johnson, Vermont. dug usually works in oils on birch plywood, although he occasionally works in acrylics or gouache. dug Nap currently lives in Burlington, Vermont in his media cave.
dug has many sides, and is hard to categorize, although most of dug's work probably falls somewhere between the borders of folk art and outsider art, and often includes some of dug's wonderful, and occasionally, dark sense of humor.
dug especially likes to paint animals, and he also enjoys painting animals of the human kind. Many of dug's paintings have text.
dug Nap's paintings are in many private collections. He has had a one man show at Webb& Parsons, and his work has been part of group exhibitions at the Outsider Art Fair in New York City. Several of dug's paintings were in an exhibit at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland.
After doing the bear illustrations, dug was contacted by several children's book publishers in London England, and this led to dug discovering and falling in love with the world of childrens books. dug was then inspired to write and illustrate several children's books, and he is now being represented by a New York literary agent. If you're interested in dug's, as yet unpublished childrens books, call dug, and he will put you in touch with his agent. dug is also currently working on a graphic novel, and is always creating new paintings.
