!, I am familiar with all the entertainment that goes on in this sea-side community. Being able to find ways to get my mind off of homework has become more of a lifestyle than a pastime. So take some notes, everyone!

has some events that could tickle your funny bone.

Unexpected Company, the comedy and improvisational troupe is finally making its way down to the beach!  Many of their performances have been in the upper part of the state, but on Friday, March 7^th the group will be entertaining the likes of

South

County

. The laughs will be held at the Cornerstone Playhouse in Wakefield, R.I. and will start promptly at 8:18 pm. There is a student price of $5 per ticket (a student ID must be shown) and $10 for the public. If Unexpected Company left you wanting more giggles, then you should definitely buy tickets for Comedian Jim Bruer at URI!

You might remember him from his years on Saturday Night Live, or his hysterical performance in the movie “Half Baked”. Jim Breuer has also had many stand-up comedy performances aired on Comedy Central. Breuer is making a stop in our tiny state as a part of his “Brueniversity Tour” and will be tickling us pink on April 10^th at the Edwards Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now, and they WILL be going fast. For URI students, tickets are $10, and tickets are $20 for the public. You can buy tickets at the Memorial Union Box Office, and the number there is (401)874-5298.

For the folks out there of a more serious palate, URI is also a hub of fine music and acting.

The URI Theatre Department is presenting Amadeus, a play based on the life and music of Mozart. The show is running from February 28^th to March 9^th. You can buy tickets at the Fine Arts Box Office, located on the URI campus. Tickets are $14 for the public, $10 for seniors and URI faculty/staff, and $8 for students. The contact number for the Box Office is (401)874-5843. Amadeus is showing March 6-8, at 7:30pm and on March 9^th at 3:00pm.

The URI Music Department is also holding their own in March. On Saturday, March 29^th at 8pm, URI will be presenting a Composers Concert. Beautiful music at a beautiful price—FREE! The show will commence in the

Rhode Island Percussive Arts Festival - 3/8 at the URI Fine Arts Center from 1-5 p.m.  Free admission!  Rhode Island area high school and middle school percussion ensembles perform for a panel of judges.

Theatre by the Sea - Open auditions 3/15.  Children's open auditions for George M and Evita 3/16.  Local Equity actors can call for appointment.  Also please check out their website for a full show schedule.

"Paint Your Dreams" art benefit - 3/15 from 6-11 p.m. at the Villiage Inn Grand Ballroom in Narragansett.  There will be a live art auction showcasing local artists aswell as a silent auction that will continue throughout the evening.

I know I love the “What I Love About You” book.  It’s a fill in the blank book with all fabulous questions like, “This is what you were wearing when I met you…” and “This is my favorite picture of you…” so you can add your own memories and photographs and the book slowly becomes the story of you and your significant other.  And come on, the effort’s there too!

Every Wednesday night, starting at 5pm, the Up River Café hosts a “half price wine Wednesday”.  Basically, they’re known for having an award winning wine list, and every Wednesday customers get the opportunity to check out any bottle or glass, as many as they’d like, for half price.  It’s a great deal, and possibly the only way a lot of us would ever be willing to try a $50 bottle of wine!   Check out their website for upcoming beer and wine dinners; www.theuprivercafe.net .  It’s located in downtown Westerly, and it’s really quite a charming spot.

Looking for a great cup of coffee or tea, or maybe a delicious martini or a funky beer?  You might want to check out Perks and Corks on High Street in

Westerly

.  It’s a comfy, cozy type setting, with couches and arm chairs making up all of the seating.  Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night someone can always be found playing live music under a spotlight, while perched on stool in front of a mic. 

It’s a place you should definitely make a point to visit!

Finally, if you love live music, and always want to get up and dance, the Ocean Mist in

South Kingstown

is an awesome place to go.  They have something different going on just about every night, and every Tuesday is something my friends and I lovingly coined “Ticket Tuesday”.  A reggae DJ comes in, not to mention the drink specials and free pool!  Every Friday and Saturday night, they host live music performances, and sometimes some pretty big names pass through.  The food is pretty incredible too, and more than reasonable.

Hopefully one of my favorite spots to go could possibly become one of yours!  As for my favorite things however, I’m narrowing my pick for this month down to one of my true loves, which is entertaining.  

I love cooking for people, and Michael Aram has created these beautiful silver serving trays that were inspired by his hikes through the forest.  I just think that you can make an occasion so much more special when you add a little something beautiful, even if it’s what you’re serving cheese and crackers on!

  Ok, so I am a firm believer that there is no reason for standard household items to be boring, which is why my pick for the month is the loop candlestick.  Aside from owning one, I have also given several as gifts, because they are super functional and also very original ways of spicing up your dinner table.  For all you fellow art dorks, the satin finished steel curves are wrought in a Fibonacci curve, which is not only found to be the proportions of everything in nature, but are the most pleasing ratios to the human eye.  Try it out with the Jerome hand dipped candle sticks for a super special Valentine’s night.

My favorite product at OOP! has got to be the Pre de Provence pineapple scented soap!  Every time I walk by it I have to smell it!  Ohh, does it smell so good.  All their products are made in

France

and the smells are long lasting while making your skin oh so happy!

The events for the holiday season are looking to be teriffic at Soco OOP!

First up..........

Art Walk at South County Commons is this Thursday evening. 

November 8th, 6-9pm

Come visit the Commons for a night of Art.  Most of the business are welcoming area artists to display new work in fine art; painting, sculpture and more.  Enjoy some wine and cheese as you stroll through the night in the village.  100% of the sales made, go directly to the artists.  This is a free exhibit for the artists and the public.

OOP! is excited to announce that Stephen Cooke will be exhibitng at OOP!

Artist statement:  Cook is compelled by the energy and vibrance of the human form,
even when isolated in segments (a foot, an arm).  his drawings and
canvasses call upon principles of abstract expressionism, while
looking forward with bold yet distorted expressions of anatomy,
geometry, form and color.

Celebrate the day after Thanksgiving by Tossing the Turkey. 

Annan And Malen have some fun with a few of the many cast of characters from the world of OOP!  The turkey, (on Malens Head) when complete is a 9 foot foam creation, made by the Big Nazo. 

The Turkey will bring his Stuffed Butterball to the Commons for a couple hours of High Fa-loop-in' spirited fun.  Join OOP!, the Soco Commons Merchants and WJZS and Toss the Turkey to Benefit the Johnny Cake Center.
